Crisis moments often quickly build, peak, then return to baseline.

Well it depends on a number of factors. For some, healing looks like making it through a crisis and returning to your normal or baseline. Maybe it looks like steps heading upward, or a slow steady incline where progress can be seen.

Yet for many others it might look like a spiral gradually heading upwards. Healing can be cyclical, with what seems like backwards steps being taken, and progress being lost.

Healing often looks like an upward cycle. Progress is never really lost, but may feel like it.

The reality is that everyone’s path to wellness is going to be different. The judgement we put on ourselves to improve quickly and linearly can lead to feelings of failure and shame.

It took a lifetime of experiences to bring you to where you are today, and it will take time to create lasting change. By giving yourself time and compassion, you can also begin to see the changes in yourself.

Celebrate your wins, grieve your losses, but know that you are doing the hard work of changing your life, fighting generations of patterns and history that may not want you to believe that you can heal and that you are already whole.
