Sliding Scale Therapy

Accessible Therapy Services provided by Social Work Practicum Students

About Practicum Student Services

Sliding Scale therapy is provided by social work practicum students under the supervision of Alyssa Castaño-Mann LCSW and in collaboration with Casa de Salud.

Working with a practicum student may have several benefits. Students are actively engaged in current training, bring thoughtful attention to their clinical work, and receive regular supervision to support high-quality care. Many clients find that this collaborative learning environment enhances the therapy process.

There are also some potential limitations. Because practicum students are still in training, they may have less clinical experience than fully licensed therapists. In order to support their learning and ensure quality of care, aspects of their clinical work may be discussed in supervision, and in some cases, sessions may be recorded for training or quality assurance purposes in accordance with professional and ethical guidelines. Services provided by a practicum student are also time limited, with students staying on for 2 semesters. At the end of that time, services will be terminated or you may be referred to another therapist.

Not all concerns are appropriate for treatment with a practicum student. Some individuals may benefit from working with a more experienced clinician or from specialized services.
